I enjoy teaching Religion because: I have a deep thirst for wisdom in all its forms- humanly achieved through philosophy; and divinely received through theology
I choose to teach at Rice because: I am committed to the school's Catholic identity and believe in Rice's mission
What is your favorite thing about your job? I love discussing important things with students and colleagues. I'm not a fan of small talk, but I love dialectic and debate. I need to be in an educational institution for my intellectual wellbeing.
If you had an unexpected afternoon off, what would you do with your time? Go swimming or on a bike ride.
Best vacation/trip you’ve ever been on: I traveled around northern France with my husband when we lived in Belgium. It was amazing to see the sites of so many historical events: Rouen when Joan of Arc was tried and martyred; Reims cathedral where the French kings were crowned; the Bayeaux tapestry chronicling the Norman invasion (I love European history).
Favorite tradition/fieldtrip/project you do in your classroom each school year: I love taking the students to the chapel and having them meditate on the History of the Kingdom of God
Favorite Rice tradition or event: Poetry Out Loud
Favorite Rice Sports Team to watch: Varsity Basketball
Anything else you'd like to say? What makes Rice wonderful is the people- my colleagues, our students- and it is important for me to be able to share my faith without excuse, because it is the most important thing to me.
If a prospective family asked you “why should I send my student to Rice,” what would you say? I would send them to Rice because the teachers genuinely see your child as a complete human being and child of God and desire their happiness.
