The Rice Alpine Team wrapped up their season with the Vermont State Championships at Burke Mountain on March 6th and 7th.
The girls qualified for States as a team, but unfortunately our boys' team missed qualification by one point. Independents Blythe Fitch-O'Leary and Ian MacKenzie, who practiced with our team all season, also qualified to compete individually. The Girls placed fourth overall. On day one, Tela Haskell '23 placed 3rd in the GS with some incredible skiing on an intense hill, and Taylor Moulton '25 had a strong 12th place finish. The rest of the team score was made up by Ella McCormack '25 and Moriah Neider '26 who both had great runs!
On day two, Rice was again led by Tela Haskell '23 in the slalom finishing 10th, skiing strong in her final high school racing event, followed by Taylor Moulton '25 in 13th and Moriah Neider '26 in 18th. Stella Holmes '24 was our fourth scorer (31st). These are very impressive scores for some tough courses among high level competition on an icy hill, and we're really proud of all of our racers for their hard work this season!
On a special note, Blythe Fitch-O'Leary won the slalom event by one second overall. The team missed having her contribute to the team scores this season but were all so happy for her winning the individual title. Congratulations Blythe!
