Rice Memorial High School athletes made a strong impact at the Vermont Indoor Track & Field State Championships, delivering standout performances across multiple events. Competing against the best in the state, Rice athletes secured several top-10 finishes in division II.
In the 55-meter dash (Division 2), junior Jeonghun "Ryan" Jin displayed his speed, securing a sixth-place finish with a time of 7.00 seconds.
Moving up to the 600-meter run (Division 2), Aaron McKay ran a personal-best 1:33.24, earning fifth place, while sophomore Theodore Washburn followed close behind, securing seventh place in 1:34.04.
Rice’s standout distance runner, Elizabeth Cunningham, claimed a state championship title in the 1000-meter run (Division 2) with a winning time of 3:11.02, proving to be one of the top female middle-distance runners in the state.
In the 1600-meter run (Division 2), senior Evey Slavik finished seventh with a personal-best 5:35.98, before returning to place second in the 3200-meter run (Division 2), clocking in at 12:02.04. On the boys' side, junior Sergio Sotomonte-Hammond secured sixth place in the 3200-meter run, setting a new personal best of 10:49.33.
Rice Memorial’s relay teams had a dominant presence in the 4x200m relay (Division 2), where the boys’ team finished fourth in 1:44.04, while the girls’ team placed third in 1:58.09.
The 4x400m relay (Division 2) saw the boys’ team put up an impressive effort, finishing third in 3:49.50, continuing Rice’s streak of strong relay performances.
In the grueling 4x800m relay (Division 2), both Rice teams secured top-10 placements. The boys’ team finished fifth in 9:51.65, while the girls’ team also took fifth place with a time of 11:53.46.
