Rice Memorial High School will be hosting an event for Sophomores on Thursday, April 10th from 9:30 AM-2:30 PM. We call it the “Sophomore Summit.” The focus of this event is to encourage Sophomores to begin to plan for life after high school and to think about how the choices they are making today affect the options they will have after graduation. We use this break from the normal schedule to take some time to focus on your student’s longer term plans and goals.
The Sophomore students will be broken up into four groups and rotate through four mini-workshops. We are excited to have Kyla McClanahan from Admissions at the University of Vermont present on What Colleges Really Want in an Applicant. In this workshop your students will learn about the criteria used in making an admission decision and how they can strengthen their profile over the next few years in preparation for applying to colleges. We will also have presentations that focus on resume building, interview skills and other topics related to the job seeking process. Lastly, our Guidance team will be facilitating workshops around Career Exploration and using Naviance and other College Search Tools. Students will need to bring their laptop to the summit.
The student's favorite part of this event is the Career Fair! 12:30-1:45, Thursday 4/10 Our career fair is currently full of exhibitors! Thank you to the parents who volunteered to share your profession, the short time you spend with our students can be deeply influential as they begin to think about future careers!
