I enjoy teaching English because I love watching students build their confidence as writers through the process of conferencing and revision.
I choose to teach at Rice because: Our daughter, Ella, attends St. Francis Xavier school and I joined the Catholic faith with her a few years ago. I was Methodist before and have a great appreciation for the values and comfort that religion provides.
What is your favorite thing about your job? My favorite thing is when a student I have had in the past reaches out to thank me and let me know how they have used what they learned in my class (especially around writing) in college.
If you had an unexpected afternoon off, what would you do with your time? Walk my dog, Sandy, and go swimming
Best vacation/trip you’ve ever been on: My brother-in law and mother-in-law live in Berlin, Germany. We have taken Ella to visit them at the ages of 5 and 10 and always make wonderful memories.
Favorite tradition/fieldtrip/project you do in your classroom each school year: Poetry Out Loud, Share Your Heart, Share the World poetry event, 1920s party project when teaching The Great Gatsby
Anything else you'd like to say?
Thank you for welcoming me to the Rice community!
