“Families and the students have responded very positively and they've been feeling the real presence of Rice continuing and creating that school spirit that we have. But also, there's not just maintenance but actual progression in their learning."
- Principal, Lisa Lorenz
No matter if our students are learning at school or at home, the Rice community is there to support them. “Our children had the benefit of spending four years in an environment in which faith and love were demonstrated on a daily basis during the most formative years of their day. The teachers and staff modeled the value of taking joy in their vocations as educators, and our children knew beyond a doubt that they were valued as individuals, and cared for enough to be challenged. I can’t imagine these crucial and special years for our children and ourselves being spent anywhere else.”

In addition to continuing their learning from home, Rice students were given ample opportunities to live the Rice mission of faith and service. Fr. Steve Marchand and Campus Ministry Director Elisabetta Anelli streamed our morning prayer live from our social media platforms. Bishop Coyne said Mass for Rice grandparents on Ascension Thursday. Students were also urged to use their extra time at home to help others.
For example, prompted by her students, history teacher Sarah Smith Conroy rallied over 100 students and their families to make dinner for clients of The Salvation Army Burlington every Wednesday between April break and the end of school.
"We continue to feel gratitude every day for the education (our daughter) is receiving and the beautiful community we experience as a Rice family. My respect for Rice’s faculty has only grown during this period of remote learning.”
