The Rice Memorial High School Green Knights field hockey team claimed redemption this season, defeating South Burlington 1-0 to secure the Division I state championship at UVM’s Moulton Winder Field. After last year’s narrow loss, head coach Kelly McClintock praised her team’s resilience, stating that “They came back with their redemption tour.”
Sophomore Violet Clough scored the game’s only goal off a penalty corner off a feed from first year student, Audrey Morris. “It’s definitely revenge from last season,” Clough said when asked about her team's performance.
Goalie Molly McGibney’s outstanding performance, including seven crucial saves, kept Rice in control. “Molly played lights out,” McClintock said, commending her focus and skill.
The Green Knights capped an undefeated season (16-0-1) with this victory, securing their first title since 2019. With just three seniors on the roster, Rice’s field hockey future continues to look bright! Congratulations to the Girls' Field Hockey Team on an incredible season and a thrilling victory! Your hard work and dedication have made Rice proud—well done!
