The Rice mission is all about helping students realize their God-given potential. Senior
Vanessa George is unwrapping her potential by trying new things.
Last year, Vanessa attended a French Mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Burlington on a whim. The Mass is part of the African Catholic Ministry and serves mostly New Americans from the Congo. After meeting one of the ministry leaders, she started an English tutoring program as part of the Rice Refugee Outreach Club she leads.
The program pairs Rice students studying French with refugees learning English, and encourages an exchange in both languages so BOTH students have an opportunity to learn.
